/ / The Quote Book / /

Hello!
Welcome to The Literary Maidens blog!
Sorry this month's quote post is a little late, Bethany and I are both swamped! But, better late than never! If you have read any of our other quote post you know that "The Quote Book" is where Bethany and I (Madi) share some of the quotes that we have collected over the course of the previous month from books that we have read. Unfortunately, Bethany won't be participating this month, but I will still share some of the quotes that I have collected.  Our goal through sharing these quotes with you is that you will find a little inspiration, encouragement and maybe a hint of comedy in your day. Enjoy!

" 'How'd you get so smart about women, boss?' 'Same way you did. Stickin' my foot in my mouth, one woman at a time.' "
~ pg 31 of Prairie Song By Mona Hodgson

"I read more out of desperation than spiritual fervor."
~ pg 118 of Prairie Song By Mona Hodgson

"Love believes all things, hopes for all things, Cora. God loves us. He'll see us through."
~ pg 36 of Glamorous Illusions By Lisa Bergren

"I require simple things. You, my children of dust, always complicate matters."
~ pg 92 of King By R.J Larson

"When in doubt, practice good manners."
~ pg 93 of King By R.J Larson

"But i think what separates the Robertsons from a lot of other families is our faith in God and love for each other. It's unconditional, and it has been that way for as long as I can remember. For me, the most dramatic part of every Duck Dynasty episode comes at the end, when our family gathers around the dinner table to eat one of Miss Kay's home-cooked meals. You don't see families gathering up like that anymore. Everybody in America is so busy, busy, busy. Americans are too preoccupied with their cell phones and computers, so they don't take the time to sit down with their spouses, children, grandchildren, aunts and  uncles, and grandparents to eat a meal together. The family structure is slipping away from America."
~ pg 2 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"I learned to cook when I was young, and most of my meals started with something I killed. I have a God-given right to pursue happiness, and happiness to me is killing things, skinning them, plucking them, and then having a good meal. What makes me happy is going out and blowing a duck's head off. As it says in Acts 10:13 (KJV), and there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. Rise, kill, and eat - that's my modus operandi."
~ pg 38 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"The more makeup a woman wears, the more she's trying to hide; makeup can hide a lot of evil." ~ pg 53 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"Women are a lot like ducks - they don't like mud on their butts."
~ pg 54 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"It's amazing what a little redneck engineering can do."
~ pg 115 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"It's like Jase says: when you don't know what you're doing, it's best to do it quickly."
~ pg 117 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"I don't care if I'm talking to one person or one thousand; if I can help save one lost soul and bring him back to Jesus, it's well worth it to me."
~ pg 196 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"If you really love someone and want to tell them what God has done for us, there's no way to escape without being persecuted. I usually tell anyone I talk to that I'm going to share the gospel because I love them. I tell them it's not contingent on how they feel about me. If they hate me, I'm not going to hold it against them. If they don't like me, they can walk away. But I have to love my enemies."
~ pg 199 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"After studying several political parties to find out what they believe and stand for, I decided my political ideology was more in line with the republicans. I definitely was no democrat - that's for sure - but I don't really consider myself one or the other. I'm more of a Christocrat, someone who honors our founding fathers and pays them homage for being Godly men at a time when wickedness was all over the world. Our founding fathers started this country and built it on God and his word, and this country sure would be a better place to live and raise our children if we still followed their ideals and beliefs."
~ pg 205 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"Today our government is saying the democracy will thrive if you take from those who are willing to work and give to those who aren't. I have to pay more taxes so that everything can be free for those people who don't want to work? It's nonsense."
~ pg 208 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"My reading of history has convinced me that most bad government comes from too much government."
~ pg 209 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"Without the Bible as a blueprint for living our lives, I'm not surprised to see our country struggling so mightily."
~ pg 212 of Happy, Happy, Happy By Phil Robertson

"She wasn't actually our aunt, but in the South, when you're a kid you've got to put something in front of the name of any adult you talk to. It's a sign of respect, and having good manners is a big thing for us Southerners."
~ pg 11 of The Duck Commander Family By Willie and Korie Robertson

"For you see, in his wisdom he understood that it was not the outward threats that were most deadly, but the inward pollutants and evil influences that attack the heart and the mind."
~ pg 20 of "Before You Meet Prince Charming" By Sarah Mally

"The decisions we make in our youth play a huge role in determining our future."
~ pg  22 of "Before You Meet Prince Charming" By Sarah Mally

"He wanted her to always think of him as her best friend, but he wanted to be the love of her life, and that was going to be the most difficult challenge he had ever faced."
~ pg @ 28% of Gentleman Of Her Dreams By Jen Turano

"My daughter, thy role is not to fit into the world - but to change it."
~ pg 31 of Before You Meet Prince Charming By Sarah Mally

"I can think of no more dangerous position than to learn to tolerate evil in order to become accustomed to reality."
~ pg 46 of Before You Meet Prince Charming By Sarah Mally

"Sometimes, she wished the Lord would knock her over with sweetness and goodness, because she didn't seem to be getting the knack of it on her own."
~ pg 92 of The Letters By Suzanne Fisher

" Destroying things is much easier that making them."
~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun."
~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"You've got about as much charm as a dead slug."
~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"Yes, frosting. The final defense of the dying."
~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope."
~ Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

"Don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today. Procrastination is a sign of weak character."
~ Trouble In Store by Carol Cox

"And who did she have? The thought caught her up short, but then she smiled, remembering the preacher's words. She had the Lord. He was her foundation, and that was enough."
~ Trouble In Store by Carol Cox

"Integrity has rewards that are more valuable than how many days we spend on earth."

~ Praying For Your Future Husband by Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer

"Do you see the triangular relationship that is formed through prayer? You, your future husband and God. God is at the top of the triangle, while you and your future husband are at the corner points at the bottom. The closer each of you becomes to God, the shorter the distance between the two of you. By praying for the man you will one day marry, you are drawing closer t the Lord."

Dear Literary Maidens (and Literary Knights if there are actually any of you out there),
When Bethany and I (Madi) are reading, we always keep a notebook handy. In this notebook we write reviews, thoughts on the book and quotes/sayings from whatever we are reading. Now, this week we were brainstorming, and a light bulb went off. "Why are we hoarding all this for ourselves?!" we said, "Lets share it on the blog!". Thus, "The Quote Book" was born. Once a month we will each share whatever quotes we wrote down that month from books we read that month {For a complete list of what we read this past month check back tomorrow for our Monthly Reflection post!}. We hope that this brightens your day a little bit. So, sit back, relax, and happy reading!

  • "Not only was he short, but very small of build and bone, and his sleeve size did not seem to have to expand one bit for his biceps from which covered the slim wrist. What he lacked in size he seemed to endeavor to compensate with mustache. Though carefully tended and waxed on the ends, the furry appendage nearly hid the lower half of his face and stuck out beyond his face like handles on a walking plow." - Concerning the new pastor's description on page 78 of Love's Enduring Promise by Janette Oke

  • "She swallowed a dry lump in her throat and began to recite... 'The Lord is my shepherd' she began 'I shall not want.' Her labored breaths dissolved into shallow gasps until she breathed no more...Amelia drew the linen sheet over her friends pallid face. 'Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.' - Taken from the Epilogue in The Heiress of Winterwood by Sarah E. Ladd
